Güemes is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Córdoba and, over the last years, it has been crowded with antique houses, bars,
boutique restaurants, art galleries and fairs where artists and artisans gather to sell their unique and singular pieces. .
This tourist-cultural circuit has around 2,500 meters between the historic San Martín Square and the Nueva Córdoba neighborhood and lies on Sarmiento Park, which was designed over a century ago by the architect Charles Thays.
Over this surface, the most important cultural centers of the province can be found, which constitute a widely diverse and elegant cultural district that resembles those of the main world capital cities.
The cultural Media Legua de Oro is a conglomerate of cultural spaces of great value regarding their architectural and artistic heritages: its layout starts in the Teatro Real, which was recently refurbished and remodelled, and continues in the traditional Teatro Libertador San Martín, designed with the trends of European lyric theatres.
s. Then, it continues in the Hipólito Yrigoyen Avenue and arrives at the Paseo del Buen Pastor, where history co-exists with the urban culture in an environment filled with dancing waters, art galleries, a refurbished chapel that is open to the public, restaurants and shops.
The itinerary continues in the Museo Superior de Bellas Artes Evita, based in the Palacio Ferreyra,
which was restored to house the centenary local plastic art collection, which includes works by
Fernando Fader, Antonio Pedone, José Malanca and Emilio Petorutti.
Within a walking distance from the museum, in the entrance to the Parque Sarmiento, the Museo
Provincial de Bellas Artes Emilio Caraffa becomes a privileged contemporary art scenario.
Just a
few blocks away, the Museo Provincial de Ciencias Naturales can be found and, in front of it there
is the new Museo Palacio Dionisi, meant to display mainly sculptures.
The layout ends in the Richieri Avenue with the most important artistic center in Latin America:
Ciudad de las Artes, where the art higher education institutions from the province are located.
